Andrew "Andy" Murray is a Scottish professional tennis player who is currently the highest-ranked British player. Murray broke into the official ATP Top 10 for the first time on 16 April 2007, and reached a career-high of No. 4 after the 2008 U.S. Open, in which he reached the final, losing to Roger Federer.

In December 2005, Murray won the BBC Scotland Sports Personality of the Year Award and the sport section of the Top Scot awards. His elder brother Jamie is Great Britain's highest ranked doubles player. Murray is most proficient on a fast surface (such as hard courts or grass), although he has worked hard recently on improving his clay court game. Murray works with a team of fitness experts, with Miles Maclagan currently acting as his main coach. He was previously coached by American Brad Gilbert.

Murray started 2009 at the Capitala World Tennis Championship (an exhibition) in Abu Dhabi, where he beat No.1 and No.2 and get title. The BBC called his performances "hugely encouraging" for the forthcoming season.

ATP tournaments in 2009 will be classified as 1000 series, 500 series, and 250 series.

The 1000 series tournament is Master Series or they call ATP World Tour Master 1000 include

Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Rome, Madrid, Toronto/Montreal, Cincinnati, Shanghai and Paris. The end-of-year event, the Tennis Masters Cup, will move to London.

The 500 series tournaments or ATP World Tour 500 include

Rotterdam, Dubai, Acapulco, Memphis, Barcelona, Washington, Beijing, Tokyo, Basel and Valencia.

For International Series change to ATP World Tour 250. For Grand Slam Tournament seem is 2000 Series because series is points.

The largest annual international team competition in sports, the Davis Cup is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested between teams of players from competing countries in a knock-out format. The 2008 Davis Cup is the 97th edition of the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. Sixteen teams will participate in the World Group and more than one hundred other will take part in different regional groups.

The 2008 Davis Cup World Group Final will Argentina vs Spain. This is the third meeting between the two nations. Spain has won both previous matches, played on outdoor clay in Spain. Spain defeated Argentina 3-1 in a 1926 zonal quarterfinal and more recently Carlos Moya clinched the decisive fifth rubber for a 3-2 victory in the 2003 quarterfinal after Argentina had fought back from 0-2 down.

The Basic Rules for Playing Tennis

This is basic rules of tennis. Don't suitable for player and watcher or audience should be known its.

Tennis Served Rule
Player one got ball call the server, and the opposing player, or in doubles one of the opposing players, is the receiver. Service alternates between the two halves of the court. For each point, the server starts behind his baseline, between the center mark and the sideline. The receiver may start anywhere on their side of the net. When the receiver is ready, the server will serve, although the receiver must play to the pace of the server.

In a legal service, the ball travels over the net (no touching it) and into the diagonally opposite service box. If the ball hits the net but lands in the service box, this is a let or net service, which is void, and the server gets to retake that serve. The player can serve any number of let services in a point and they are always treated as voids and not as faults. A fault is a serve that is long, wide, or not over the net. There is also a "foot fault", which occurs when a player's foot touches the baseline or an extension of the center mark before the ball is hit. If the second service is also faulty, this is a double fault, and the receiver wins the point.

A legal service starts a rally, in which the players alternate hitting the ball across the net. A legal return consists of the player or team hitting the ball exactly once before it has bounced twice or hit any fixtures except the net, provided that it still falls in the server's court. The ball then travels back over the net and bounces in the court on the opposite side. The first player or team to fail to make a legal return loses the point.

Tennis Points
A tennis match is composed of a number of sets. Typically for both men's and women's matches, the first player win two sets wins the match. At certain important tennis tournaments for men, including all four Grand Slam tournaments and the final of the Olympic Games, the first man to win three sets wins the match.

A game consists of a sequence of points played with the same player serving. A game is won by the first player to have won at least four points in total and at least two points more than the opponent. The running score of each game is described in a manner particular to tennis:

scores of zero to three points are described as "love" (or zero), "fifteen", "thirty", and "forty" respectively.
If at least three points have been scored by each player, and the scores are equal, the score is "deuce".
If at least three points have been scored by each side and a player has one more point than his opponent, the score of the game is "advantage" for the player in the lead. During informal games, "advantage" can also be called "ad in" or "ad out", depending on whether the serving player or receiving player is ahead, respectively.

A game point occurs in tennis whenever the player who is in the lead in the game needs only one more point to win the game. The terminology is extended to sets (set point), matches (match point), and even championships (championship point).

A break point occurs if the receiver, not the server, has a game point. Break points are of particular importance in men's professional tennis because serving is generally advantageous. The advantage to the server is much less in the women's game. A receiver who has two (score of 15-40) or three (score of love-40) consecutive chances to win the game has double break point or triple break point, respectively. As with game, set, and match points, break points are not announced.

The end of Sets and game
A set consists of a sequence of games played with service alternating between games, ending when the count of games won meets certain criteria. Typically, a player wins a set by winning at least six games and at least two games more than the opponent. If one player has won six games and the opponent five, an additional game is played. If the leading player wins that game, the player wins the set 7–5. If the trailing player wins the game, a tiebreaker is played. A tiebreaker, played under a separate set of rules, allows one player to win one more game and thus the set, to give a final set score of 7–6. Only in the final sets of matches at the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, the Olympic Games, Davis Cup, and Fed Cup are tiebreakers not played. In these cases, sets are played indefinitely until one player has a two game lead. A "love" set means that the loser of the set won zero games. In tournament play, the chair umpire announces the winner of the set and the overall score.

In tournament play, the chair umpire announces the end of the match with the well-known phrase "Game, set, match" followed by the winning person's or team's name.

History of Wimbledon

The Championships, Wimbledon, commonly referred to as Wimbledon, is the oldest major championship in tennis and is regarded by many to be the most prestigious tennis championship in the world.

Held annually between late June and the beginning of July for two weeks (usually ending, at the latest, on the second Sunday of July) at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, England, the tournament is the third Grand Slam event played each year, preceded by the Australian Open and the French Open, and followed by the U.S. Open. The tournament duration is subject to extensions for rain.

Separate tournaments are simultaneously held, all at the same venue, for Gentlemen's Singles, Ladies' Singles, Gentlemen's Doubles, Ladies' Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Youth tournaments – Boys' Singles, Girls' Singles, Boys' Doubles and Girls' Doubles – are also held. Additionally, special invitational tournaments are held: the 35 and over Gentlemen's Doubles, 45 and over Gentlemen's Doubles, 35 and over Ladies' Doubles and wheelchair doubles.

The Beginning

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which is responsible for staging the world's leading tennis tournament, is a private Club founded in 1868, originally as 'The All England Croquet Club'. Its first ground was situated off Worple Road, Wimbledon.

In 1875 lawn tennis, a game introduced by major Walter Clopton Wingfield a year or so earlier and originally called 'Sphairistike', was added to the activities of the Club. In the spring of 1877 the Club was re-titled 'The All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club' and signalled its change of name by instituting the first Lawn Tennis Championship. A new code of laws, hitherto administered by the Marylebone Cricket Club was drawn up for the meeting. These have stood the test of time and today's rules are similar except for details such as the height of the net and posts and the distance of the service line from the net.

The only event held in 1877 was the Gentlemen's Singles which was won by Spencer Gore, an old Harrovian rackets player, from a field of 22. About 200 spectators paid one shilling each to watch the final.

The lawns at the Ground were arranged in such a way that the principal court was situated in the middle with the others arranged around it; hence the title 'Centre Court', which was retained when the Club moved in 1922 to the present site in Church Road, although not a true description of its location. However, in 1980 four new courts were brought into commission on the north side of the ground, which meant the Centre Court was once more correctly defined. The opening on the new No. 1 Court in 1997 emphasised the description.

By 1882 activity at the Club was almost exclusively confined to lawn tennis and that year the word 'croquet' was dropped from the title. However, for sentimental reasons, it was restored in 1899 and since then the title has remained 'The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club'.[2]

The Championships were first played under the control of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 1877 at a ground near Worple Road, Wimbledon; the only event held was Gentlemen's Singles. In 1884, the All England Club added Ladies' Singles and Gentlemen's Doubles. Ladies' Doubles and Mixed Doubles were added in 1913. The Championships moved to their present location, at a ground near Church Road, in 1922. As with the other three Grand Slam events, Wimbledon was contested by top-ranked amateur players until the advent of the open era in tennis in 1968. Britons are very proud of the tournament, though it is a source of national anguish and humour – no English man has won the singles event at Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936, and no English woman since Virginia Wade in 1977. The Championship was first televised in 1937.

Wimbledon in the 21st Century

Wimbledon is acknowledged to be the premier tennis tournament in the world and the priority of The All England Lawn Tennis Club, which hosts The Championships, is to maintain its leadership into the twenty-first century. To that end a Long Term Plan was unveiled in 1993, which will improve the quality of the event for spectators, players, officials and neighbours.

Stage one of the Plan was completed for the 1997 Championships and involved building in Aorangi Park the new No. 1 Court, a Broadcast Centre, two extra grass courts and a tunnel under the hill linking Church Road and Somerset Road.

Stage two involved the removal of the old No. 1 Court complex to make way for the new Millennium Building, providing extensive facilities for the players, press, officials and Members, and the extension of the West Stand of the Centre Court with 728 extra seats.

Stage three continues. The construction of a new Championships entrance building, housing Club staff, museum, bank and ticket office at Gate 3 has left the Centre Court east side empty and will allow development to provide better facitilies for the public, increase the seating capacity from 13,800 to 15,000 and erect a retractable roof.

Roland Garros Background (French Open)

Roland-Garros, commonly known as the French Open, is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks between mid-May and early June in Paris, France, at the Stade de Roland Garros. It is the second of the Grand Slam tournaments on the annual tennis calendar and the premier clay court tennis tournament in the world. It is one of the most prestigious events in tennis and it benefits of the widest worldwide broadcasting and audience of all events in this sport. Because of the slow playing surface and the five-set men's singles matches without a tiebreak in the final set, the event is considered to be the most physically demanding tennis tournament in the world.

History
Officially named the Les Internationaux de France de Roland Garros or Tournoi de Roland-Garros (the "Tennis French Internationals of Roland Garros" or "Roland Garros Tournament" in English), the tournament is often referred to as the "French Open," and sometimes simply as "Roland Garros." The event is named after its stadium, which is in turn named after the World War I pilot Roland Garros.

The event began as a national tournament in 1891 as the Championat de France International de Tennis. The first women's tournament was held in 1897. In 1912, the French tournament was held with a different surface (at the time all tennis played was lawn tennis), a red clay ("terre battue"), made up from the crushed wastes of red brick. The tournament was open only to tennis players who were licensed in France up until 1924.

In 1925, the French Championships opened itself to international competitors with the event held on a grass surface alternately between the Racing Club de France and the Stade Français [5]. After the famous Mousquetaires or Philadelphia Four (René Lacoste, Jean Borotra, Henri Cochet, and Jacques Brugnon) shocked the US tennis establishment by winning the Davis Cup on American soil in 1927, the defense of the title on French soil was in rigueur.

For the 1928 Davis Cup challenge, a new tennis stadium was built at Porte d’Auteuil, after the Stade de France offered the tennis authorities 3 hectares with one condition. The new stadium had to be named after the World War I hero, Roland Garros. The new Stade de Roland Garros, and its brand new Center Court, which was named Court Philippe Chatrier in 1988, hosted the Davis Cup challenge and ever since, the tournament has gained prestige.

In 1968, the French Championships became the first Grand Slam tournament to go "open," allowing both amateurs and professionals to compete.

Since 1981, new prizes have been presented Prix Orange (the most fair-play and the most press friendly player), Prix Citron (the player with the strongest character, personality) and Prix Bourgeon (the tennis player revelation of the year).

Another novelty, since 2006 the tournament has begun on a Sunday, featuring 12 singles matches played on the three main courts.

Additionally, on the eve of the tournament's opening, the traditional Benny Berthet exhibition day takes place, where the profits go to different charity associations.

In March 2007, it was announced that the event will provide equal prize money for both men and women in all rounds for the first time ever.

Tennis Ball Story

A tennis ball is a yellow or white ball designed for the sport of tennis, a little smaller than a cricket ball or baseball. They differ somewhat in weight, composition, and color. Modern regulation tennis balls are kept under pressure (approximately two atmospheres) until initially used.

History
In the early days of tennis, balls were often made of leather stuffed with hair or wool. Early tennis balls were made by Scottish craftsmen. These tennis balls were commonly made from a wool-wrapped stomach of a sheep or goat and tied with rope. Those recovered from the hammer-beam roof of Westminster Hall during a period of recent restoration were found to have been manufactured from a combination of putty and human hair, and were dated to the reign of Pope Leo X. Other versions, using materials such as animal fur, rope made from animal intestines and muscles, and pine wood, were found in Scottish castles dating back to the 16th century. In the 18th century, ¾" strips of wool were wound tightly around a nucleus made by rolling a number of strips into a little ball. String was then tied in many directions around the ball and a white cloth covering sewn around the ball. This type of ball, but with a rubber core, is still used for the original game of tennis, today called real tennis. With the introduction of lawn tennis in the 1870s, vulcanized rubber was first used to manufacture balls, often in tubes of four with a package, but not with the name of the brand.

Modern Tennis Balls

Modern tennis balls are generally made in a fluorescent green color like the ball pictured above (called "slick green"). Yellow and white are the only colors approved by the USTA and ITF. Tennis balls must conform to certain criteria for size, weight, deformation, and bounce criteria to be approved for regulation play. The ITF defines the official diameter as "more than" 2 and 1/2 inches but "less than" 2 and 5/8 inches.

The most important test for amateur players is the bounce test, as tennis balls begin to lose their bounce as soon as the tennis ball can is opened. Most Tennis players prefer tennis balls with good bounce, extra duty, and can be used on all types of courts (e.g., lawn, clay, or concrete). To test a tennis ball for bounce, it is dropped from a height of 100 inches (2.5 m) onto concrete and must bounce back up between 53 and 58 inches (1.35 - 1.47 m). This test is assumed to take place at sea-level and 20° C / 68° F (high altitude balls have different characteristics when tested at sea-level).

Tennis balls are filled with air and are surfaced by a uniform felt covered rubber compound.

The ball is to weigh more than two ounces but less than 2 and 1/16 ounces. The ball is made from pure rubber, which is then mixed with 14 to 17 chemicals to get the proper consistency. Approximately 85% of the ball weight is the rubber/chemical mix. Over 90% of tennis balls are produced in Southeast Asia where the natural resource is abundant.

Each year approximately 300 million balls are produced, which contributes roughly 32.3 million pounds of waste in the form of rubber that is not easily biodegradable. Historically, tennis ball recycling has not existed and the most common use has been to cut the ball into two semi-spheres and attach this to the bottom of chairs in schools, nursing homes and the like.

What is Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow is a condition where the outer part of the elbow becomes painful and tender.
The condition is also know as lateral epicondylitis, lateral epicondylosis, or simply lateral elbow pain. According to the best available scientific evidence, tennis elbow is an idiopathic, self-limiting, enthesopathy, of middle age.

As with many other hand and arm conditions, speculative etiologies such as overuse, tennis, etc. have very limited scientific support and are likely overstated. It typically occurs between the ages of 35 and 60, resolves in about 1 year, and never returns. Whereas arthritis becomes universal with advancing age, lateral epicondylitis is rarely seen over age 70. The condition was first described in 1883.

Treatment

Non-specific palliative treatments include:
